I was looking at cases w/ 5+ drive bays , several come w/ 80 - 120 mm fans (noisy ones?) & power supply.

4 external 5.25's should be enough, avoid the raidmax power supplys, they are trouble

go for a decent no frills case with options for 2- 120 fans

the video card will determine how much you need to spend on a power supply

quality control on the ballistix is so good, you should be safe with 2 single
sticks bought from same batch, that's what I did when I got my 256's for 26$
each, the matched pairs were gone and they had been 100$ over a year ago

I ended up testing 4 sets of ram in my box, my son has my 512's cas2(gamer)
durn newegg warehouses I get hit too

My son's fancy computer case sits on top of his desk. He also ha UV lights mounted inside of that case and the UV reactive round IDE cables.

Me too, with the bang for a buck thing. I guess the ice storm we had slowed things up a bit, I'm still waiting for the RAM and HSF and I gotta mod the case still. But we know where you are, if we need help

@Chewy, The HSF and the Crucial Ballistix RAM came today in a box with a blue Crucial sticker on it sealing the box. The 2 512 sticks were standing up in a neat little cardboard holder. Pretty gold heat spreaders, the prettiest RAM I ever seen. I wonder if it was a matched pair? I put 'em in the blue slots in the MOBO.


I'm using an old, built like a tank, Gateway case with lots of room for 3 1/2" drives and 3 5 1/4" drive bays. I have just about everything in but the HSF (and what a monster it is ) after attacking the case with a Sawzall and a Dremel for the rear outputs and PSU I'm using one of them free Ultra V 500 Watt PSU from Frys.

This case has a Power Button, green LED and yellow LED but no reset button. No reset button, no big deal, I can always get a momentary contact switch to put in.

The 2 leads coming from the PB are blue and white/

The 2 leads coming from the Green LED are black and red

The 3 leads coming from the yellow LED are black, orange and green

They are all in a 14 pin plug I can't use, the Asus has 20 pins. I have 2, 3 and 4 pin plugs I was gonna splice/solder them to to connect to the Asus mobo.

I also have a lil 2" speaker I had laying around to use with a red and green wire.

I figured it this way but wanted to check with you and make sure

Looking at the front panel pinout of the Asus:

I figure PB (2 leads) blue and white to PWRSW

green LED (2 leads) red wire to PLED +, black wire to PLED -

yellow LED (3 leads) orange wire to IDE_LED +, black wire to IDE_LED -, green wire to a ground. Are all the pins not marked grounds or just the two that are marked ground near the speaker pins?

was the old case an at or an atx

at uses an on off switch, atx just shorts the contacts momentaryily to turn on the switching power supply

at switch will not work

just make sure the plus on the led's is right

I just hook up the power led, not the sleep
