I'm a little confused. The document said: VCD:
Birth: debated, but generally pegged as being developed through the late 1980s and bearing it's public birth in the marketplace in 1993. It is the first optical disc format used for video presentation.

I thought the first was "Video
Laserdisc (LD)
Birth: 1969 Public release 1978"

LD is the first on the Video list
"Birth: 1969 Public release 1978 Originally titled the Reflective optical Video-disk system, the first public release came more than 8 years after the manufacturing process first began" LD was an optical platter. VCD was an optical disc. I know that means nothing to us nowadays but the two terms were used by their respective companies in the early '90s when they competed directly. There are some minor difference in how the tracks are recorded, pressed and read, as well as material differences that make the two similar in look but drastically different in design. I don't create the terms, I just write them down. Hope that clears things up.
