sounds like it is missing a file during install.

my co- worker had same problem but with free Avast virus software.

try going into your temp files[documents/settings/ local settings/temp folder and empty it and download to install again..

temp folder would be holding the setup files which need to be purged if corrupted.

Best bet might be a boot CD with an av cleanup program on it. You might have to get someone else to download the image and burn it for you. I haven't been using them so I can't recommend any from experience. You might find something good here:

That is why my son has his own computer, so if he screws it up then that is his problem. As long as it is not mine or the wife's computer. I usually get around to fixing his computer when I feel like it. So he is real careful what he downloads now. The one time it took me several days to get to run right. Photo Angel I feel your pain.

For future ref. it might be a good idea to get an external USB and demonstrate how to do a backup every 3 days with Macrium Reflect. The free version was just updated in the last couple of weeks so the boot CD should work on most PCs.

I know it's after the horse is out of the barn. I got by for years with Restore Points and just backing up files. It took a nasty Internet Explorer BHO that deleted my C: partition to convince me I had to invest in some image backup strategy. Actually doing the backups is a few clicks and kind of fun to do. Sometimes it's faster and easier just to restore to a known state, like maybe one or two days old, than to try to figure out if you got all the virus cleaned out.

There are other free image backups besides Macrium. I did just test it to make sure it works with my USB docking station. Booted the CD and it could read the files on the drive in the docking station, so that's a relief. Makes it easier to swap disks out ensuring I always have a fairly recent backup that's not connected to my LAN in case something should infect the entire setup.

the old way was - try to start in "safe-mode", run some of the old (eg. hijackthis) to clean up, & also (if needed) the old fave "restore" (as stated above).
there's many o/s's out these days & some don't fully support the old-school clean/detect progs.
                  here's to success

It sounds like the windows installer got messed up. I had a problem here that I could not install the open office update. I got a error message saying that the windows installer was not properly set up. What I did, was to update windows Vista and after that I was able to install the office update. You may have the same problem.

Solved the problem posting in the event that anyone else should need help.

                          Hello,
And thank you much to all that attempted to help me out through this. This forum has been a life saver for me in so many ways in so many times.

Chewy got me hooked on this Malwarebytes for the really bad stuff!

As it turned out there was a maleware Trojon on my pc that was sooooooo bad that it was not only downloading more and more crap to my pc it was also deleting important files from the Malewarebytes progy that can fix the problem. "The malware present here deletes mbam.exe." which is why the program couldnt run.

So here is how it got fixed:

1.) Used and did a scan with -Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2)FREE WARE)

That log file showed some things to lead to more help.

2.)Downloaded ComboFix and printed off the guid to use that from here:

Which can be lownloaded from here is anyone ever needs it its also free!

3.)Ran scnned and cleaned up part of it. with Hijackthis

4.) Downloaded the malewarebyter cleaner to remove the old version and files from it.

5.)Then installed the new version of Malewarebytes but has to go to the program file and instal the renamed exe - http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiem...mp/explorer.exe

Saved that into the program file for the Malewarebytes progy.

Had to creat ini files to drop into the HiJackthis progy more then once and had to run that scan and fix 3 times.

And at last malewarebytes was able to find the Bad Apple "WINDOWS\system32\dafopore.dll (Trojan.Vundo.H)"
This was 1 of 27 Trojans found on my pc. WOW LOL! But a bad one to remove.

6.) Had to run the combofix again this time with an added ini file.

7.) had to instal the upload the mbamgui.exe into the program file for the malewarebytes.

and then it ran the way it was supposed to got rid of everything bad and the machine is now mean and clean.

BUT beware this route fixed all virus, trojan, maleware, spyware on this machine but BLEW out all of my RAM - which caused the machine to NOT power up. Bought and installed 1 gig of new ram and we are good to go.

For the full how to on solving this issue see thread here at the Malewarebytes forum. Its crazy stuff but running mean and clean again.

                          I also had to use:

                          CCleaner
                          TweakNow
                          AFT-Cleaner
                          Glary Ulilities
Full Norton scan for other virus crap.

                          Then
                          OTL(OLD Timer Tools)
                          Hijackthis
                          ComboFix
                          Malewarebytes
                          ComboFix again the "FIX" ini
Malewarebyte again with a forced renamed exe file.

And all of this cus my KID wanted to download porn!!!!! Which he is now banned from the internet for the rest of his life living at home.
