Ah, the sweet life of under the table sales. LOL.

I too have a few keys so I don't even care... plus how many CDs can one person need? Last I checked if you have a Dell PC with an OEM OS CD, you can install it on another Dell PC?

Hi fellas. I've yet to use an an OEM OS CD in any other PC than my Dell which it came with. Would I be able to use an XP CD w/a personal build? I'm going to have to upgrade pretty soon to keep up w/HD/Blu-ray. Whether a personal, or factory build would new specs affect the OS?

Sooner or later hardware will not have xp drivers any more, but regardless you are not supposed to use an oem disk that's been on one computer and put it on another later.

The eula forbids this, however you can upgrade and/or repair as much as you want

you could buy a new mobo, cpu and ram and put in the case?

Instead of wasting the old computer I would prefer to buy a new oem disk while they are still available and build a new computer from scratch.

Thnx Chewy. I'm going to get it while their still available. I just read the thread on "Is your PC ready for HD/Blu-ray and the last post said everything had to be HDCP compliant. Mobo, monitor, memory, cpu... etc.. Is this for the most part correct? Irregardless I am keeping this dellhell. It's been pretty good to me despite it's obvious flaws. Newegg for the oem?

No more Compusa and Bestbuy really don't deal w/too much software. Unless Circuit City. Radio Shack I seriously doubt.

Chewy the 1 I have now is windows xp media center edition 2005. Does it actually have to be this 1 again for the build? Newegg has this. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116049

They also have others, but the site you suggested does as well.

Which 1 would you suggest that would suffice for the build. I know it has to have at least sp2. which I also have. Didn't bother w/sp3. Thnx.

I am not that impressed with the media center pc's and xp pro isn't really necessary for anyone on a home network

I'm sure products will always have XP drivers... since according to PC magazine, less than 4% of people with Vista actually plan on keeping it.

With the last sale date less than 2 months away, has anyone heard if Microsoft will press XP SP3 to be available for purchase?

Would be nice to have an all in one disc for new builds.

Ok. I really didn't care for the media center option or wmp as the source never looked great on my screen, and I prefer to use my stand alone. Pro I don't need either as I mainly use my pc for digital and audio. This is my 1st computer so I'm not familiar w/the different windows os. I'm guessing windows xp sp2 would suffice? A nudge in the right direction I do need here as it'll be part of the new hd/bluray ready build.
