I seem to be lacking clarity today - and for this I apologize.
When I said, "I believe my initial post creating this thread, rightfully belongs back where it was originally posted", I meant would you please split this thread and move ONLY my initial/first post back to the DVDShrink sub-forum, while keeping the rest of the thread (starting with the post by UncassMS) in the "Off Topic sub-forum, where it certainly belongs.
By the way, it's rather interesting to see the various personalities bubbling to the surface.
Again, sorry for the confusion...Last edited by setarip; 31 Mar 2005, 05:54 PM.Comment

Now wouldn't that neatly cut UncasMS off at the knees?

Yet again to cynthia
To possibly satisfy the apparent concern (that I really don't understand) expressed by "blutach" the nefarious (defined as "extremely wicked" ;>}) one, by all means feel free to include my initial/first post of this thread BOTH here (by itself, as one solitary post) in the DVDShrink sub-forum and as part of the ENTIRE thread moved to the "Off Topic" sub-forum.
Thanks again ;>}
(I wonder if you find the careful scrutiny being applied to this thread to be as humorous as do I?)Comment

If Setarip doesn't mind.
I have always believed it is how Shrink handles unreferenced material. I think the way Shrink 3.17 and versions before analysed the DVD differently to Shrink 3.2 regarding the unreferenced material.
I have only had experience with one ArcoSS DVD so far. I got it working by removing the unreferenced material using VobBlanker.
I would also like to know for sure if am right or completely wrong.Last edited by nwg; 1 Apr 2005, 12:50 AM.Comment

As Blutach pointed out the FAQ has an updated index that easily prevents you from having to read 17 hours worth of help. If you really think that posting a question and waiting for someone to come up with an answer is faster than taking a short break to think about which category your question belongs to and then look it up feel free to do so but don't act surprised if the answers aren't to your liking.
As for Setarip's initial posting: I don't know why everybody jumps on him since I've been doing the same in the past. This only because dvdshrink has a tendency to not check his mail but check the threads he's interested in. So the reason for me addressing him in a thread he posted to instead of using PM is not me bragging about working on Shrink but on getting his attention to check his mail. This guy's just extremly busy.
Finally some info to clarify the different versions (translated to english from the upcoming german version history):
Code:Version 3.2.0.16 - 2004 ---------------- Added support for japanese Unicode Version 3.2.0.16 (CSS-Free) - 04.12.2004 ---------------------------------------- English version of Shrink reduced by the capability to rip copy protected DVDs.
Some darn lawyers also use dissuasions (dunno if this is the correct term) on ppl who link to software that can circumvent protection, they tried it with the german IT magazine c't but they went to court, partially won and now they're going for the next higher court. This guy on ebay got less lucky, he sold some old computer magazines that came with old software on cdrom. Amongst it was an old version of CloneDVD which now retrospectively had become illegal so he had to pay nice fee for it.
Code:Version 3.2.0.16 deutsch Version 3.2.0.16 deutsch (DeCSS-frei) - 30.03.2005 (should be online real soon now) -------------------------------------------------- German version both with and without DeCSS.

As of 3/31/05, version 3.2.0.15 IS the most current FULLY (includes decrypting ability) functional version of DVDShink...Comment

thanks setarip, i was wondering about the version talked about earlier in this thread (3.2.0.16) if i read things right it's a version that has the decryption ability removed?MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum, AMD Athlon 3500+, 1Gig Kingston DDR Ram, Maxtor 120 Gig 7200 RPM primary, Western Digital 80 Gig 7200 RPM secondary, NVidia GEForce 5200FX vidio card, MSI Tv@nywhere Master Tunner card, Liteon SOHW 1633S dual layer burner. I think the Non De-CSS version is a wonderful idea that could be applied world-wide.
Now that DVD Decrypter is de rigeur (except for progs like DVD95Copy and the like that can handle ARccOS), there is no need whatsoever to have De-CSS in DVD Shrink, IMHO. In fact, if people use DVD Decrypter, there's no need to have Open Disc there either. Just Open files.
This minimises the possibility of DVD Shrink v3.2.0.16 Non De-CSS being a "targeted product" of the MPAA as well as minimising risk for anybody that gives advice about how to back up DVDs with it. I.e. It puts it into the same state as Nero Recode.
Of course, DVD Decrypter is then firmly in their sights, but it always has been, hasn't it?

You are correct.
In the future, you should post your DVD Shrink-related questions in the DVD Shrink-specific sub-forum here...MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum, AMD Athlon 3500+, 1Gig Kingston DDR Ram, Maxtor 120 Gig 7200 RPM primary, Western Digital 80 Gig 7200 RPM secondary, NVidia GEForce 5200FX vidio card, MSI Tv@nywhere Master Tunner card, Liteon SOHW 1633S dual layer burner.
