    AVI to MPEG2 wrong aspect ratio

    hi
    been having lots of fun with video converting. cant seem to be able to convert any AVI file to MPEG2 format.
    I've tried various video convertors as well as TMPG, all widescreen avi files are converted to 4:3 ratio when set to MPEG2. even if i select maintain aspect ratio or force the 16:9, still, they turn out as 4:3.
    converting usiing MPEG1 yeilds the correct ratio, but isn't it best to use MPEG2?

    i tried installing a new MPEG codec after removing nero's using codec sniper. still, same results.

    gspot results on the converted mpeg2 file -

    video(S) --> Ligos MPEG Splitter --> Ligos MPEG Video Decoder --> (R)

    audio(S) --> Ligos MPEG Splitter --> ffdshow Audio Decoder --> (R)

    thanks guys.

    This makes no sense. If you use the same settings that were successful for MPEG-1 (EXCEPT, of course, the resolution) in MPEG-2, the resultant format should be the same...

        "some weird codec issue maybe?"

        If you can successfully "Play" the original AVI file in Media Player or similar software-based player, then there should not be a codec issue. Have you tried an alternate "Converter" tool besides TMPGEnc?

          converters tried -
          TMPG
          Win Avi
          A4 Video converter
          Cucusoft Avi to dvd, svcd, vcd converter
          Avi2mpeg

          all reproduce with wrong aspect ratio.

          most original movies i try to convert are Xvid AC3 files. they all playback movies perfectly in Zoom player and Media player.

          thanks for the help, this is really stumping me.
