avi to dvd movies with low sound volume

i used first avi2dvd to encode xvid avi into dvd format,but it couldnt display easteuro subs...later i tried that cinversion using tmogenc/dvd author,and added subs as in one of the guides here,and everything seemed ok...when i played it on my comp,it worked,but when i put it in my dvd player sound volume is too,and i mean really too low...
now when converting with avi2dvd i had a video with mp3 audio...and with the vids converted with tmpgenc i used ,as in guide described,ac3 audio within the xvid avi,but that one also ends up with sound volume too low...am i missing sth?
