sony dvd rw dw-q30a wont read -r's

I bought a sony dvd rw dw-q30a a few weeks ago and it is supposed to read and burn to both +r/rw and -r/rw. but it doesn't, i presume it is something to do with having drivers still on my machine from my old drive.

but i cannot find new ones anywhere on the net anyone know where I might download new drivers for a sony dvd rw dw-q30a?

    thanks

edit: try some simple tests, see if it reads different
factory disks, then try burning cd's and different types of dvd's. dvd burners don't take drivers,
they plug and pray right into the OS. Burning dvd's takes software.

Liteon has fallen behind in the developement of dvd burners, and
Sony gets almost all their's from liteon. This is called rebadging. Support
for rebadged drives is a problem, with important exceptions like nec and maddog.
Crossflashed to a liteon 1635S, the sony would stand a better chance
        of doing it's job.

Did you get your Q30A working??

          Hi
          I have just purchased a Sony Q30A DVD re-writer.
I also am having problems getting it working. It is replacing a working CD-RW drive but in the devices list in control panel is showing only as a CD Rom device. How do I get this recognised as a DVD RW device?
I see a reply on this thread says that no drivers are required so what is required?
I am currently running W98se but will soon be upgrading to XP Pro.
If you post a reply here please also email me at trevor_austin@ntlworld.com
          Thanks
