Reburned 11/4/06 TY02 Benq 1650 4x
Seems as if CDspeed reads the original burn date as the reburn date.

DVD-R Verbatim 16X Taiwan, Samsung Burner model# and firmware is displayed in screen shot with Media ID of MCC03RG20

Both DVD's are from the same 100 DVD spindle. The poor one seems to play fine though in the DVD player.

Well Chewy is the expert on these but personally I don't like either of them but it looks like #2 is going to last a little bit longer than the first one. I am going to go find one of mine that I burned when I first started on real cheap but crappy media.

For Chewy

Chewy, I am certainly no expert but what is the graph telling me? I see the scans that are 100% or close have the PI errors as shown in light blue are quite low (below the speed of the drive as shown by the green line) How do you read the results? Scans that are 100% or close to it seem to be fairly high up around the 8 or 12 region. I don't even know how to explain what I am thinking in relation to the graph. The two graphs that I posted, how do you think they are? I know 30% isn't good but the DVD plays fine. Does the quality figure indicate how long the DVD may last. How do you evaluate a scan other than the quality score, what does a real good one look like. My drive is set to burn at 8X as the max, would my score be better if burn't at 4X or 16X. I am getting quite worried about Verbatim DVD-R's.

Any info, would be appreciated. Soup was helping me along but he says you are the master when it comes to this.

the 30 was from burning to the edge, look at the bottom graphs and see the red(that's the stuff that with age will cause the data to fail. It seems the dvd-r verbs aren't quite as good as the dvd+r, on average. I bitsett and used the + verbs.
The graphs are not absolute and each burner scans differently.

Just be careful handling the disks, I usually scan right after the burn.

Thanks Chewy. I just scaned this Sony Taiwan DVD-R 16X with the Samsung drive as shown in the screens shot and it's firmware Media ID is shown also. Created with DVD-RB and ImgBurn.

You might want to give this a shot in Dvd shrink, it should keep you away from the edge.

16x verbatim dvd+R, burned at 8x Benq 1650

this and a scan is all we really need to know, firmware of the burner if it's not the scanner, the software used doesn't make a difference in the burn quality.

rough area in the early pif graph shows the lower quality control in manufacture process of verbs, pie's staying below 20 indicate it's good media
as scanned by a benq, some of the early problems are from the burner burning slower. Jitter was a little high as was the pif and pie average but a good burn, say an A-

sony branded 8X dvd+R, made in japan(one of my last) burned at 8x benq 1650

dug this disk out of the bottom of a box off uncovered spindle, cleaned lint etc off it before burn

I remember being disappointed about the quality of this batch after buying them almost a year ago. Wish I could get some more now.

Now this is a grade A burn
