    Help! I'm confused

I have 2 spindles of blank DVD+R media.

    1. Dynex - MEDIA ID : RITEKR03
    2. Playo - MEDIA ID : AML001

I burn the discs at 4X max speed on my laptop and mostly play them on my desktop.

Now according to the listing on :

my Playo discs are 4th CLASS MEDIA where my Dynex discs are 2nd CLASS MEDIA. I would expect the Dynex discs to be better than the playo. So far I have burnt ~ 30 Playo discs without a single coaster (and they all play on the desktop without any problems). I have burnt just 2 Dynex discs so far and the burn fine but the video halts and skips when I'm playing it back on the desktop (they play fine on the laptop that I burnt them on).

What's going on here? Can someone please help me out!!

Is it possible that I might get better burns on the Dynex if I burn at a lowers speed (say 2X)?

Currently I've set burn speed to MAX (which I think is 4X for my burner)

            Hi Chewy,

            Burner's ID : HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4082N
            Player's ID : HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4482B

I'm not sure how to get the firmware versions!

Could you let me know how to find that out. Then I can post it here.

this thread discusses your laptop drive, and 2 of the world's experts on LG drives exchange a lot of info

few of these lg oem laptop drives ever get a firmware update so we may be at a dead end, you just have to find a mid they like and stick with it

instead of starting at the bottom try starting at the top with taiyo yuden and verbatim, shy away from 16x media tho

firmware is usually that short number next to the drive id in several programs

I've finally decided to get rid of this c**p spindle of dynex discs and get order TY. Just wanted to know whether I should order DVD-R or DVD+R. I'm still going to order single-layer discs only

Could someone please advice whether I should get - or +.

Thanx a million for your advice Chewy!!

After reading the reviews abt TY discs I'm myself as to why I ever used other media in the 1st place.

I'm going to order the premium line TY media from supermediastore (where I'm getting a 100 disc box for ~ 36 USD) tomorrow.

I hope this is the best deal I can get for these discs. Do let me know if u know of any better deals on TY media.

Also, I know u r gonna ROFL but - these discs are rated 8X. I hope they will burn fine in my 4X writer!!

                      Thanx once again.

night's advise on the MadeInJapan(MIJ) 8X YudenT02's 8x dvd+r is actually the best buy on media, but I can't hardly find them anymore.

best deal right now tho not involving chasing around looking at fine print on the outside of a package

@ NightTran, just tell her that the reason you buy so many of the best blanks is because you married the best. If it works let me know.
