A great conversion tool. Most of the times it works just perfect. But it could be a little faster. And thats why I prefer Xmpeg.

Since the link for XMPEG is on the same page as FlasKMPEG (and the "vote for this product" link is also on the same page), please include your vote for XMPEG and all FlasKMPEG derivatives above.

a good tool, could be the best tool out their if the programmers put a lot more work into it, a lot of the features dont work that well.

A perfect tool for beginners, and a convenient-to-use one too. Too bad its deinterlace and subtitle capabilities aren't too good.

Come on. If you live in an not-English speaking country and you want a good program for subtitles, you just choose Flask. I create VCD's and Flask is the only program which can add subtitles to my mpg-file. All the other programs are just a bunch of crap.

I'm creating VCD's for more than a year now and I really don't seem why I should chnage to another program. For beginners??? Everything works fine, so why would I make things more complicating??
Still standing... ...also after the forumcrash )

Simon, I have to agree with Enchanter, FlaskMpeg is great but does have its limitations with subtitles...

Try encoding 'Das Boot Special Edition' with subs and you ll find that Flask fails to add them to the MPEG file. Solution? Rip subs separately, and add them to the MPEG using the roundabout method of VirtualDub + frameserve to another MPEG encoder (I use TMPGEnc).

Also, it occasionally fails on some DVDs. I had a problem with 'Cinema Paradiso' recently where it crashes 3/4 of the way through the encoding...

But hey, overall it s still the easiest tool to use even with its limitations. And yes indeed, speed could be faster, but for non intensive use it does the job.

I started with Flash 0.594, then changed to Xmpeg, and then to GordianKnot. Always using DivX 4.12 codec in two passes mode.

I quoted 2/5 : For me Flask is worth 4/5 but Xmpeg is only 1/5.

                    Why ?

I found Flask produce very good quality results, but too slowly. I had no problems with subtitles after installing the subtitle patch.
I really appreciate the fact that Flask can do some IFO Parsing.
My only problem is that I could'nt encode both passes at a time (had to wake up during the night to start second pass )

That's why I changed to Xmpeg Xis which could batch both passes. But I really had problems with Xmpeg. It was consuming all my PC ressources
I often found my PC completely frozen because of this software. I gave up to use it.

Then I learned to use GordianKnot, with is perfectly stable and can also process both passes at once, but no IFO parsing . But this is not the subject of that thread.

                      Flask 0.594 is stable.
You can learn how to use it here : http://nickyguides.digital-digest.com/flaskmpeg.htm

it is just very slow and therefore i think it is bad

i only get 2 fps on an AMD XP 1800+

                        640 X 480 pixels

                            Simple reasoning, eh?

That's too slow for a system like yours. I figure you just didn't setup Flask properly or there's something mis-configured with your system.
