    Resize mp4 video

Hi. I'm a total newbie with all of this, and I'm having what appears to be a rather common problem. After burning various video files to a dvd, when played back on a standalone player, the picture stretches a bit too much and cuts off the subtitles. Through the search function, I've found a lot of programs that will allow me to resize .avi files, but nothing that will work with .mp4. Any suggestions anyone could offer would be appreciated.

The problem would be your TV's overscan and resizing wouldn't make any difference since the same percentage of the screen would still be cut off. You need to add borders. You could use AVISynth to add the borders. It supports mp4's via directshowsource().
