Integrate Subitles in VCDs (Source is NOT DVD!)

I found some guides how to burn a VCD from a DVD and integrate the Subtitles. But I haven't found an answer to my specific problem:
I downloaded various AVI-files and, from another source, the subtitles to these AVIs. After I convert the AVIs to MPEGs I want to burn them as VCDs but I haven't found a way yet to include the subtitles (they're either .sub or .srt) I don't mind if they are permanent. I use Nero. Any ideas for tools or tipps how I can do this. I'd really appreciate some help! Thanks!

You could use VirtualDub (or one of its variants) to permanently incorporate the subtitles as part of the .AVI...
