how can I save filesize with B/W movies?

Dear all

I use DVD2SVCD to create my SVCDs. I have seen that the size of the generated mpg files is not smaller if I convert a black-and-white(B/W) movie.
Is there a way to save file size(and conversion time) for B/W movies???
