Source filter for this file could not be loaded

    All right, here's what happened...

I just installed Tsunami Codec Pack 3.99 on my PC and now I can't playback VCD files (.dat). It says: "source filter for this file could not be loaded in WMP 6.4. Tried other players and still the same error... Tried BS player and zoomplayer too but still the same 'could not locate filter' message. Any suggestions?

Don't you just hate a simple but complicated problem?

Try uninstalling the codec "pack". If this resolves your problem, install ONLY the codecs that you KNOW you need...

Thanks setarip for the prompt reply... now why didn't I think of that... duh. Yeah it works now.

Just another question (if anyone decides to answer this and cos I don't want to start a new thread):

Gordian knot/DVX both use virtualdub to do the encoding, so why not just use VDubMod to input the .vob files directly and have the convenience of selecting the filters and their strengths, etc?

      1. We can skip DVD2AVI which poses some audiosync problems
      2. No need for any additional software

As for subtitles, why not just use submux (vobsub)? It worked like a charm (less than 5 mins) and there's no need to re-encode the entire movie.
