No video on VCD playback

I wanted to play a VCD I got from a friend, but when I play it in WinDVD, it is just a pink screen. I get audio, just no video. If I extract the .DAT file and play it in Media Player, it is black screen, with audio. Am I perhaps missing a codec or something?

Try playing back the file with PowerDVD.

Also, to see if it really is a VCD, pop it into your dvd player and see if you get any luck.
