ok, i see what u mean. i should trust win expl more than gk.

but knowign that (somethign ive only just found out) 1024bytes = 1 kb (and not 1kb = 1000 bytes)might have prevented me from makign soem mistakes.

i agree, as mentioned my final avi came to under 1420040bytes so it coudl have easily fitted on 2 cds. but due to the way i split it (the second part of the avi being 709mb in winexpl)and hgettign confused between actual file sizes it could not - thinkign that 693 950 bytes for the first partwas the maximum. so i had too much space on the first cd.

    thanks for your time anyway

yeah the quality very good indeed,

the sound seems pretty good as well, although ive only done the audio extraction via gordian knot and nandub - im gonna experiemtn with the altenrative process with vobsub. but that seemd a little complicated at first. i didnt quite understand what the tutorial meant by doing it via vobsub, 'unless GK has already extracted an mp3 for you' - how woudl i have prevented it from doign so?

anyway , thats my mission for today

        cheers

          split by file size

there is a way to split files by file size vs. time
i unfortunately have been unable to find the program
but i've seen it in this forum before.
maybe some of these nice video genius's will be able to help.
i'm looking for the program too.
          no life just digital

first (just to prevent misunderstandings) it is VOB2AUDIO not vobsub.

how do you prevent gk from handling audio?
simply tell gk to use a certain kbit size for the file-size calculation in order to leave the very amount of necessary space to mux audio to your avi file LATER on or create the mp3 beforehand and SELECT the mp3 and tell gk to JUST MUX.
