    Dixv5 / encoding : general questions...

    Dixv5 / encoding : general questions...

I've been backing up the DVDs I own using GordianKnot rip pack 0.28.7/codec pack 1.6. The Divx3 codec I like for its simplicity, but lately I have been experimenting with Divx5.1.1. Being that I have a slow PC (PII-350, 320MB) the encoding takes about 12 hours per pass to encode a standard length movie (using either Dixv3 or 5). Can you help me with these questions:

    1. Am I doing something wrong that it takes so long to encode?

    2. When setting up the first and Nth passes in Divx5.1.1 how should I set the encoding bitrate for each pass? Should they be the same target bitrate that GK helped me pick?

    3. I have the codec set to write an MV file on the first pass, and to read the MV file on the Nth pass. Is this correct?

    4. If my PC crashes during the second pass, is there any way to restart the second pass, or do I have to start over completely with the encoding process?

    Thank you all!
