i have used staxrip as well as its predecessor (DVX) for years and i have had contact with the author for a long time so be asured "staxrip" is clean!

running video conversions on a system to which you dont even have full access leads me to the assumption you should reconsider your actions one more time

I found this: if I open an .avi file that has sound, StaxRip crashes. After I disable the MadiaInfo.dll and open the same avi file there is no crash, but I have no sound (i am sure this is normal).
I am doing something wrong or this is a bug?

StaxRip Aspect Ratio - Resolution Lock?

Thanks Stax for an outstanding GUI, and to everyone else in the forum for great support. The end results are always perfect and the ability to create Templates makes this the Ultimate Video Encoding Tool.
          <O</O
Like everyone else, I do have a question.
<OI created a Template with an Aspect Ratio of 1.765. This is the standard for PVPs.
Using the XviD Codec, is there anyway to Lock the predefined Resolution created in a template during the initial video load?<O</O
When I load a video, it will always resize to the original Resolution of the DVD.
I do not want it to Resize, that is the purpose for the Template.<O</O
I can lock the Resolution when I run the Compressibility Check, but not when I load the video.
View tab>Options>Automation>checkbox AutoCrop and Adjust File Size not Resize.<O</O
I have tried working with Resize Filters, Anamorphic, preselecting 16:9 in XviD Configuration AR. Nothing works.
          <O</O</O

Staxrip crashes when using TextSub() filter.

Crash, when using TextSub with .SSA file in AVI container.

File does exist, yet it just crashes,
            2 crash dialogs included.

Oke, Staxrip is dead. Please remove this sticky, it's useless now, so no issues will be resolved anymore, and noone looks at this thread anyway.

It WAS a nice program, one of the best. Oh well

I guess the author only hangs out on his own page now.

StaxRip is not dead, but development is always a slow process.

If you are impatient, you can always use MeGUI, which does a lot of the things StaxRip does, but is updated a bit more regularly:

My DIVx plaer can not read XviD format – I can see that disc not compatible
What is the easiest way for new user to convert XviD format in DIVx?
                        Thanks for your help

                          Hi Boris,

If your DivX Player is not able to play XviD ... may be it is time to get a new player ... lot easier to upgrade than waste hours and hours of Conversion.

Philips DivX Players are the Best ... I have Philips DVP5982 and I love it ... I can watch AVI's right from my External Hard Drive ... 250GB FAT32 format thru the USB on the unit. I bought mine on SALE from Best Buy for only $60 including Tax ... love it, love it, love it.

Do a google on 5982 and you will see a lot more on it. Plays any AVI file and many other formats.

"Super" does a very good job converting mkv to avi or many other formats

you could also try looking for mkv2avi or many other tools
