Hello just joined this great site.

I have a question for anyone that knows about miniDV camcorders and video editing.

I was told that if I record footage in long play, I may have issues when I begin to edit it on my computer.

The video editing software I will be using is Adobe Premiere, which I will buy when I return home from my travelling.

Was I given incorrect information regarding long play?

Long play just gives you a lower quality recording, afaik, depending upon the cam that might be an issue.

Pretty pricey program to be worried about saving on tapes?

I strongly recommend never recording in long play. It can cause major pains in the @$$ later on. Like if you take it somewhere else and try to play it back: very few decks (esp. professional decks) can play long play.

And as mentioned by Chewy: the quality is lowered. If you subject the footage to much in way of special effects or further compression you can expect artifacts/aliasing/general crapness to sneak in.

Tape stock is not so expensive that it's worth the hassles.
