Safer than most other codec packs.But still,you are inviting trouble. FFDSHOW is THE choice.Believe me, I speak from experience.Had burnt my fingers with evn K-Lite.
And if you install FFDSHOW, MPC will automatically detect it as the defaults directshow filter.

BTW, ask your uncle to explain to you the nuances of avi pixels and resolutions and aspect ratios.That way you will understand a lot of what we are trying to say.

What is exactly ffdshow is for? Is it a codec to play back with MPC (Media Player Classic)? Will you give me some details? Also where can i get the lastest Divx and XviD codecs from? If you can answer these questions then i might be happy to take off K-Lite. Where can i download ffdshow from?

you have heard of directx? well directshow is technically part of that

ffdshow just upgrades that part in windows

I was having problems with xp sp2 and media player 9, went to mediaplayer10 and that fixed some things, nero vision fixed some more, ffdshow fixed the rest

If you have AutoGK installed then XviD is already installed.

That's for the decoding part.He still needs the codecs for encoding.(Unless he uses the FFDSHOW for encoding also)
