let's just pretend I am starting from scratch....

OK ladies and gents.....Let's just start over...

I have been encoding divx for a while now, with a few problems...like my audigy not letting me encode...fixed with a Santa cruiz....

But any way....I had an old ATI tv wonder VE laying around so I installed it and hooked my satalite dish to it....
    Here is my problem:

It will only record in .mp2 format. When I use flask to encode it makes an avi file but playing the file with media player causes an error that closes media player, and the playa locks up the computer......So let's pretend i know nothing about divx.

I want to capture video and audio from my tvtuner card, and compress it with divx....what should I use? Cheep is good, free is better!

    thanks folks!

look carefully in the options of the ATI program, you can also choose to encode in mpg format.

Then virtualdub will let you convert into divx.

      easy.

        EDITED
        ..................
You can use Divx Pro 5.0.2 as codec which you can download free at http://www.divx.com , also download Divx Player at http://www.divx.com to play back Divx movies or PowerDVD downloading at internet .
Why not have a try ?

Wow, that is just about the poorest conversion tool I've ever seen, no audio codec or bitrate options, no chopping options, very limited resizing option, no automatic two pass encoding. And they acctually charge money for that.
Donate your idle CPU time for something usefull.

              ok tried

I tried a few test clips in the .mpg format, worked fine but I have no sound....in .avi, no sound, but .mp2 has sound.....

Are there any other conversion utilities that support this format? or perhaps a conversion to .mpg from.mp2?

              Thanks for those quick replies!
