    DVD region info?? please help

I am sure this is a dumb question but i cant find the answer anywhere, so i will ask it......

how do i find out the region info of a dvd that i purchased (not the actual dvd player).....and if it is region free or not?

i want to sell it and dont want to give out the wrong info.

    thanks in advance.

If you're using Power DVD4, the Configuration dialog/Information tab will tell you the disk's region(s). There's probably a similar facility in WinDVD.

      thanks joe.....it said the following:

      Player Information :
      Player Region Code : 4
      Current Focus Drive : D:
Title Region Code : Not Available

would you say that this title is "region free" if it is saying the title region code is not available?

      thanks for your help.

You need to start "Play" before the disk's region is registered by PowerDVD, then right click to bring up the menu and select Configeration etc. So my copy of "Bridge on the River Kwai" showed "Title Region Code: 2, 4". On the other hand a certain disk from an area not too far from you showed "Title Region Code: 1,2,3,4,5,6, All".

Regarding all commercial DVDs, the region is identified on both the DVD and the DVD package...

            It is a commercial DVD.
would "RDVD0031" be referring to the region code?
Its printed on both disc and cover, and i cant see any other reference to region.
            thanks for the replies.

Look more carefully - You'll see either a simple "Region 1" somewhere on the DVD, or a "1" inside a globe, which is, in turn, inside a box...

man i cant find it anywhere on the box or on the disc....either i am blind or the manufaturers left it off.
i used joes suggestion and it says regions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 after i play the disc. so i have my answer anyhow.
                thanks for the assitance.

                  determine dvd region with software

Use some DVD utility software to show the region code(s) of the DVD.

My favorite is DVDDecrypter from http://www.dvddecrypter.com or from http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/software2.htm but you could use DVD-Genie from http://www.inmatrix.com .

If you're looking for some Macintosh software then try this link: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/al.../mac_software/

See the attached picture for an example of DVDDecrypter.

Try DVDDecrypter in MODE ISO Read, it will even tell you the maximum read (ripping) speed.

dvd decrypter will tell you your current region by going to:
                      Tools IFO -Region Information

                      Player Information :

                      Current Focus Drive : D:
Title Region Code :____________ Not Available___(play your dvd for a couple of minutes then check here)(the above information only regards to your dvd drive settings/info.
