VCD on 4,7 DVD-R

Hey! i was wondering. If you have 4 movies in VCD, 1.2gig 0.9gig 1.1gig and 1.0gig, is it possible to make a Large VCD on DVD-R 4,7gig! I mean like with a menu where you select movie?

I was wondering about this cause it could be outrageous cool

Has anyone ever tried this. And did it work. And How To?

Hi.

Generally YES! But remember: DVD standard means 720x480 (NTSC) or 720x576 (PAL). Therefore you normally have to rerender your movies to get these resolutions.
Any authoring-prog (my favorite: DVD Architect) will do this for you and you can also build up your own menue to select each single movie with your remote-control.

If you DON'T want your movies to be rerendered, you should use DVD Patcher.
You patch your entire movies to the resolution, your authoring-prog will use (see on top of this post). After authoring is done you patch the resulting vob-files (all) back to the original resolution.

Finally burning on DVD and: enjoy!

But it doesnt answer my question. Thanx though! that info can maybe be used in the future projects! The problem is that i have these VCD clips from my honeymoon in VCD MPEG Format in a size of total around 4.4GIG! Is it possible to make such big an VCD image and burn it to a DVD-R for succesfully viewing on a table standalone dvd player which supports VCD and DVD-R! TIA!

Not directly!

DVD's use two folders (AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS) to be played on your standalone-player.
If you merge your movies together to one big movie and burn this movie direct to a DVD, your player will show you --- nothing!

Without authoring it isn't possible.

The only patcher I know of is one for the svcd standard, if you want it I can give you an address for it (svcd to dvd).

Can you give me the link where you found out about a "dvd patcher"?

Thanks for the link, it appears however that it will function only for MPEG-2 files, not MPEG-1 (VCD).

Serious Problems

Okay now ive tried this:

I tried encoding en normal 7xxx DVD Vob format
I tried encoding normal and then patch it with DVD Patcher
I have tried burning as VCD and DVD

Either way my DVD Player selects Chapter 0 and says illegal input.
the specs for my Player is
DVD, MP3, VCD, SVCD, XSVCD, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW.

someone has an answer for this? TIA!

Ah okay ive just read that you cant burn VIDEO_TS on an CD-R and especting it to work! it has to be a DVD-R no matter what size the clip is! Is that false or true?!

You don't need to 'patch' VCDs, only SVCDs. VCDs resolution is already DVD compliant.

so then again! it is possible to fit four 1gig VCD's mpgs with audio layer 2 48khz onto a DVD-R for succesfully playing in standalones!?? since they are already compatible?

YES

Assuming that you have 4 x 1GB MPGs with a horizontal resolution of 352 and 48KHz mpeg 1 layer 2... all you need to do is author your dvd (collate mpgs, add menus or whatever) & burn to DVDR. No reencoding is required. Your choice of authoring software is your only issue.
