testing result with different type of dvdr 4x from meritline and shop4tech

    this is for your information:

I had burn 10 discs of each on these brand from meritline.com and shop4tech.com

Accu, Matrix, Prime, Beall, Piodata, Optical disc, Princo

and the drives had used on are:

Pioneer 105, 106, Sony dru 5001, Teac APAPI, NEC 1300

    Here is the result:

    1. Accu DVD-R from www.meritline.com 10 copy testing (Made by Lead data)

Pioneer 105 & 106 read as 4x burn at 4x through out the disc without any freezing and the master is 4.6 GB

Sony DRU500A burn read as 4x burn at 2x but no freezing and the master is 4.6 GB

Teac APAPI burn read as 4x burn at 2x but no freezing and the master is 4.6 GB

Teac APAPI burn read as 4x burn at 2x but no freezing and the master is 4.6 GB

NEC 1300 don't read the disc

comment: very good deal compare with same quality media such as Princo, Prime, Accu, but reading ability take few second longer than higher end media with most of standalong dvd players.

    3. Piodata DVD-R from www.shop4tech.com 10 copy testing (made by Lead data)

Pioneer 105 & 106 read as 4x burn at 4x through out the disc without any freezing and the master is 4.6 GB

NEC 1300 read as 4x burn at 2x but has freezing problem and the master is 4.6 GB

    5. Optical disc also known as shop4tech house brand from www.shop4tech.com 10 copy testing ( made by optical disc)

Pioneer 105 & 106 read as 4x burn at 4x through out the disc without any freezing and the master is 4.6 GB

Sony DRU500A burn read as 4x burn at 4x but no freezing and the master is 4.6 GB

Teac APAPI burn read as 4x burn 4x no freezing and the master is 4.6 GB

NEC 1300 read as 4x burn at 4x but has freezing problem and the master is 4.6 GB

    6. Samsung DVD-R also known as Beall from www.meriltine.com 10 copy testing (made by ritek)

Pioneer 105 & 106 read as 4x burn at 4x through out the disc without any freezing and the master is 4.6 GB

Sony DRU500A burn read as 4x burn at 4x but no freezing and the master is 4.6 GB

    7. Princo DVDR also known as LEDA from www.shop4tech.com 10 copy testing (made by Princo)

Sony DRU500A burn read as 4x burn at 1x but no freezing and the master is 4.6 GB

Teac APAPI burn read as 4x burn 2x no freezing and the master is 4.6 GB

NEC 1300 read as 4x burn at 2x but has freezing problem and the master is 4.6 GB

    Conclusion:

The point to all this is that at least with these types of "4x" media, you get what you pay for. You pay the extra for the Optodisks or the Beall or Ritek DVD-R's and you are going to get consistent burns @ 4x with all drives that is 4x formate. If you try and go with the Matrix, PRIMES OR ACCU's...you will get the occasional disk which will burn @4x on some drives, however, this is only my own testing with 10 disc of each brand. But the most importand is still depend on the drive itself because different user with different drive and I guess the reason of the above media all work great for Pioneer drive is because Pioneer owns most of market share and that is the reason why above medias work flawlessly but when it comes to other drive, you get what you pay for. On top of it, what is the different between generic brand media like above and know branded media like TDK, my comment to it is as long it works and who care which brand is it and as long I could save some money here and there on media that I know is most suitable for my drive instead waste my money on branded media that is going to cost double the price.

for those who has sony drive dru 500a or ax, if you have nero 5.5.10.35 or 5.5.10.42 then you will be able to burn shop4tech.com's Matrix 4x at 4x without any problem!!

On the Sony DRU500A, what firmware are you using to get 4X burning?

I have the latest firmware, using the Accu 4X DVD-r disks, and it only burns at 2X. (Using RecordNow Max 4.5 software)

          To dvdram

It would be beneficial if you would indicate O/S is and system configuration(s)...
