    problems adding subtitles to DVD

    Hi,
I am trying to add subs to a DVD, I don't care about the menus and the extras (at least for now).
    Here's what I've been doing:
    - extract the audio and video streams with DVDDecrypter
    - convert the subtitle script to .sup using DVDSupTools (I checked the log file and the generated bitmaps to make sure everything went OK)
    - author a new DVD with IFOEdit and all my nice little streams
    The result has 3 problems:
    - When playing the DVD, after 5 seconds or so, the movie freezes. Fast forward doesn't really work, play doesn't work, and if I go to another chapter it plays for 5 seconds and freezes again.
    - Most of the subtitles are too low and don't appear on the screen.
    - The subtitles seem to be out of synch (hard to quantify because the 2 above mentioned problems!)
    HELP!!!

It appears that there is a general mess with the streams and the multiplexing of streams into VOBs.

I am really not suitable to offer advise on the use of IFOEdit, as I haven't mastered it myself, however, in these days, the tools have improved and automate the process.

You may want to try DVDShrink. You can re-author the DVD and use only the main title, the audio track(s) you want and the subtitle tracks you want.

I don't want to discourage you to understand how it's done and use IFOEdit, but using a more "advanced" tool in the meantime will probably reduce the frustration.

      To SaSi

DVD Shrink does not have the capability of adding an external subtitle file to an already existing DVD...

I know that DVDShrink cannot add new subtitles, but from reading the original posting, my understanding is that the subtitles were ripped from the original DVD into .sup file.

My understanding is that florian demuxed the video stream and audio stream, ripped the subtitles and used all that with IFOEdit to author a single title DVD.

florian, did I get it right?

use dvd decrpter in ifo mode.

select only the sub you want (no video or audio)

make sure create IFO is also selected.

You have 2 file Vob and ifo(containing sub)

              Get hold of vobsub configure.

load the ifo, it will index the vob.

              At the end click ok.

You now have a SUB and IDX file.

              Get sub2sup.exe.

load the idx and create a GOOD sup.

Mux m2v,ac3, and SUP in ifoedit to make working title set.

load original ifo and get colours for subs.

load newly created ifo and paste in colours.

Search google for tutorial on turning sub off (pre command - hint) otherwise sub is on all the time.

You need to change the colours otherwaise they are green all the time.
