"disc can't play in this region"

    Hi,

I have a few DVDs that won't play on my system (Dell notebook, Win95, 8x DVD drive). Says player doesn't match region code on disc. I ran CDVDinfo on my drive and it's region 1, the DVDs are region 1 too. Is it my software decoder maybe? I don't have a DVD decoder hardware card.

    Thanks for any help,
    Nate

Suggest you read this first (from the Articles section on this site!):

I read that but it didn't help much. I did a little research and the region-free firmware update available for my drive has apparently messed up the drives it was used on. So I'm not using that. DVD Region-Free and other utilities require Win98 and above, I have Win95. I got DVD Genie but can't get it to work with my player (InterActual). I am using DVD filters I got off this site ("free DVD filters" on http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/do...ng_plugin.html) - how do I find out what their region setting is? I am thinking that's the problem.

Sorry, I've no experience of using DVDs on an OS older than Win98. You could try downloading a demo version of WinDVD or Power DVD to see if they play these disks correctly -- you'd better check that they're compatible with Win95 first though or they could mess up your system.
