DVD medium showing up as 4,488MB

DVD -/+ R's only showing up as 4,488MB in NERO 5.5.10.54



is this normal? I did a massive search and looked everywhere in NERO to try to change it.

(DVD-R's are Ritek G04's, and DVD+R's are Optimum)

Yes... (Anywhere from 4,483Mb to 4,493Mb).

I assume you're perplexed because this appears to be less than the "4.7GB" advertised for blank DVDs.

They mislead. The reference to "Gb" on the blank DVDs means 1 billion bytes - and not 1,024 bytes (true kilobyte) x 1,024 (true megabyte) x 1,024 (true Gigabyte)...

There are approximately 4.37 true Gigabytes available on a burnable DVD5 (single-sided, single layer)
