TMPGEnc and AC3?

Okay, I've been reading through the forums for hours and hours but found nothing that works for me.

I have a XviD video with AC3 6.1 sound and I've read that if I change the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader's priority to 1 (highest), TMPGEnc Plus will be able to support AVI files with AC3. This doesn't seem to work for me, though.

When I select the Video File, the program doesn't choose the same file as the Audio File. So I tried extracting the AC3 file using VirtualDubMod and also fixed it with AC3fix just in case, using this file as the Audio File but I just get a File "..." can not open, or unsupported.

Am I missing something? I have the AC3Filter codec installed and the AC3 file will play on Windows Media Player.

Is this just a typo (s/h/b 5.1) or does the file possibly contain a DTS audiostream?

(I can't access your File Information screens. How [EXACT description] does VirtualDub identify the audiostream?)

Make sure you have BOTH an XviD codec and FFDShow filter installed on your system.

Regarding the .AC3 audiostream, to be exact:

In TMPGEnc, under the "Environmental Settings" "VFAPI plugin" tab rightclick on the "Direct Show Multimedia Reader" and increase to one greater than the highest priority of listed items. This will enable TMPGEnc to accept a properly encoded .AVI with .AC3 audio for input...

I just installed the latest alpha version of ffdshow (20041012) and TMPGEnc still won't accept AC3. I already have XviD 1.0.2. Do I have to configure the ffdshow filters so that TMPGEnc recognizes it or something?

Just wondering, if I can get it to work, would I be able to use the Source Range feature in TMPGEnc? I would like to adjust the audio gap and delete some frames from the clip before converting.

"TMPGEnc" (and many authoring programs) are very "finicky" about proper audio headers. You may have to use "AC3Fix" to adjust the header of your file.

Are there any other solutions then? I want to use TMPGEnc because I can adjust the audio gap and delete frames before encoding.

Am I the only one that can't get it to work? Do I need some sort of plug-in?

I see in HeadAC3he, there's an option to convert to AC3-WAV. If I convert my AC3 to that, would the output file still contain 5.1/6.1 sound? Would the MPEG-2 have 5.1 sound?
