    Convert .smi to Other Video

    Hi all,
I have a .smi video file saved to my computer that I need to convert to another video mode so I can use it in a PowerPoint presentation.

    How can I do this?

    Hello,

The. smi is only a subtitle.

To convert it in srt or other. Use Subtitle Workshop

It does not work. When I load the movie, it tells me it is unsupported or a bad type.

Is there another way to do it? I do not need to change anything; all I need to do is make it .mpg or .mov etc.

        1) Load the original video file into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub

        2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

        3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

Well, it would be able that there is corruption of file while passing by a system of file windows.

There is another solution again: Vobsub.
The VobSub plugin only takes the files idx, sub and ifo.
But to integrate a file srt (or sub, smi, psb, ssa, ass) it is necessary to use the TextSub plugin (fortunately he is also delivered with the VobSub pack).
where did you find them and how to install them? They are in the index of installation of Vobsub (by default "C:\Program Files\Gabest\VobSub"), and these are the 2 files vdf. Copy them in the index plugins of VirtualDub, throw it, open your video, Video> Filters...> Add...> TextSub 2.23> OK, open your file of subtitles and the tour is played!

It will not let me. "Cannot detect file type of file.smi"

            Any other ideas?

"Cannot detect file type of file.smi"

Then "guada 2" is correct. It is NOT a video file - rather, it is a subtitles file...

                  "Then what can I do?"

If you were thinking that this is a video file, you are mistaken - and ther's nothing you can do to make it a video...

                    Hello Winglets747,

I believe that you have 2 problems (your subtitles and your video)

For it, I think that it is preferable to proceed by stage:

First, use an utilitarian as Avicodec, Gspot or videotoolbox to inform me on your file (video + audio +subtitles).

It is a SMIL Multimedia Presentation file, according to itself.

                        Only GSpot would recognize it:
                        Non-AVI File - Type Unknown

Perhaps to make things easier, the file I am using is: http://boss.2.streamos.com/real/2/dr..._fryingpan.smi

and I saved it (no the link, but the actual file) to my computer.

                        Any more ideas?
