    To (only) dvdshrink

(This is a current version of a post I originally made on 3/20/05 - The 3/20/05 post has been deleted)

Although I've seen several threads over the months that have included postings stating that older versions of DVDShrink were capable of properly processing some DVDs that the latest version of DVDShrink would "gag on", I don't believe I've ever seen an explanation as to WHY this would be so.

Perhaps "dvdshrink" (and only "dvdshrink"), the author, could directly provide some insight as to what program changes have been made that have had a negative impact on its ability to properly process some DVDs - and, despite the stated discontinuation of product development, possibly address this concept as a "bug fix"...

    Perhaps "dvdshrink" (and only "dvdshrink")
if you want some sort of a private chat, why don't you use pm or email to contact dvdshrink?

stop spamming the forums with your *private messages* posted throughout the various forums

"if you want some sort of a private chat, why don't you use pm or email to contact dvdshrink?"

Perhaps you are not familiar with "dvdshrink". The author has proven to be uncontactable/unresponsive to most such forms of communication.

Additionally, do you really think any other poster is in a position to answer the question I've raised? If the first post in this thread did not specify that "dvdshrink" should be the only one to respond, there would undoubtedly be useless unrelated posts by (probably very much younger) less knowledgable posters sincerely trying to help - but doing nothing of the sort.

"stop spamming the forums with your *private messages* posted throughout the various forums"

As you well know, my initial posting to this thread (as well as other such "personalized" postings that I've made) is in no way "spamming".

perhaps you may not be interested, but i even received a version 3.2.01.6 via email from the author

the two of us know fairly well, that you tend to be *bend the rules* whenever it pleases you whereas on the other hand you're the first trying to lecture other users or complaining to admin

Your comments appear to beg response and, therefore, I'll do so, despite the fact that you've effectively "hijacked" this thread:

"perhaps you may not be interested, but i even received a version 3.2.01.6 via email from the author"

I presume that's the "safe" version required for compliance with the new German law...

"the two of us know fairly well, that you tend to be *bend the rules* whenever it pleases you"

(It would seem that it is you who is now doing "your definition" of spamming.) More accurately, I very carefully ABIDE by the rules, only as much/often as you exceed your authority and get subsequently rebuked for doing so.

But we both know that "flaming" (which is how I interpret your accusations of spamming and "bending the rules") is a violation of the rules of these forums, so why not drop it for now?

          Tomorrow is another day...

(Although I am aware that as a moderator you can "roam" wherever you please among the sub-forums, it's just a little conspicuous that, despite the excellent monitoring job being regularly performed by the three active moderators DESIGNATED as being responsible for the DVDShrink sub-forum, YOU felt compelled to criticize my posting of a question for the author of the program for which this sub-forum was created...)

hmm, so you consider calling someone a *liar* (which you did only very recently) is *carefully abiding by the rules*?

well, maybe i should close this thread and the two of us wait for dvdshrink to reopen and answer your important question then?

"well, maybe i should close this thread and the two of us wait for dvdshrink to reopen and answer your important question then?"

The question was posted for the benefit of the several other posters who (as recently as yesterday) have stated they've had problems using the current version of DVDShrink with various DVDs, but have all discovered that they were able to successfully backup the same DVDs using an older version of DVDShrink - and want to know why this is the case.

As I said, tomorrow is another day...

@UncasMS - Why debate the matter? You are the super moderator and make the decisions, irrespective of whether you are "designated" or not.

If chetwood can receive emails on a reasonably regular basis from dvdshrink and he can check into doom9 as recently as the last few days, I'm sure someone of setarip's undoubted resources can track him down via email.

matters of so little importance won't lead any mod to closing a thread only to have the last word

                      To UncasMS:

The tone of each of your post, to me, appear to be extremely biased and at
the very least inflammatory. The title of the thread was/is self explanatory and
I can see no reason why you would even consider posting.

I’m not trying to make this a popularity contest, but you really should consider
removing each and every one of your post as they do nothing but cause unwanted
and unnecessary conversations. Let DVDShrink respond if he so chooses and stay
out of this, and if you should have a problem with this post please feel free to email me - If you are a moderator as you proclame then do so and keep it off this thread.

                        Opposing Viewpoint:

I think UncasMS's posts are entirely appropriate.

Setarip has asked this same 'why doesn't it work' question numerous times. It's time to ask the question via PM where it won't need to get bumped and re-asked continuously.

Frankly, the way he phrases the question ('other tools work, why does Shrink suck'), I wouldn't answer either.

Quite frankly, I don't understand why users would not want to communicate "Private" matters (i.e. continuing disagreements; arguments; what kind of food do you like etc.) via PM. This is precisely why the feature exists. But in partial defense of "setarip", I do feel that the subject matter of the initial thread is valid for users of DVD Shrink (both old and new alike) as illustrated in "setarip's" last post:

"The question was posted for the benefit of the several other posters who (as recently as yesterday) have stated they've had problems using the current version of DVDShrink with various DVDs, but have all discovered that they were able to successfully backup the same DVDs using an older version of DVDShrink - and want to know why this is the case."

Trying not to be ignorant here, but exactly what version of Shrink is Setarip talking about?"

As I understand, the version 3.2.0.16 referred to by UncassMS, is a special RESTRICTED version available to residents of Germany - restricted in that the decrypter was removed from it so that it abides by a new German law that apparently prohibits the backup of software and any digital media (and, I presume, makes it illegeal to provide a program that has that capability).

                              2) "'Frankly, the way he phrases the question ('other tools work, why does Shrink suck'), I wouldn't answer either' - Kedirekin

I've never said anything that even remotely resembles that alleged quote - and I certainly wouldn't resort to such jargon.

Thank you, Alien Bay for questioning that obvious misquote by "Kedirekin". Perhaps "Kedirekin" has somehow confused me with some other poster.

If anything, I was amongst the VERY first and most ardent supporter of dvdshrink (the author) and DVDShrink (the program), well before most of the current posters were even aware of its existence - and I continue to find it to be an extremely useful tool, although its value as a "standalone solution" diminishes somewhat with each release of a new ARccOS-protected DVD...
