    Data File DVD Burn Errors

    howdy,

I am trying to burn files off of one of our servers onto DVD's to keep a Back UP. It is left over files from previous employees that we need to keep just incase. I am using Nero6 for the burn, but so far it has failed 3 times. It will get most of the way through the burn and stop...

    Writing short lead out
    write error
    failed at 1x(1,385 KB/s)

I have just updated to the newest version of Nero..

    here is the log file:

Welcome to the Digital Digest Video forum TAMU-CSO! It appears you do not even have a DVD burner. All I see is a DVD-ROM.

      This
      Recorder: <TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R5002>Version: 1033 - HA 3 TA 0 - 6.6.0.14
say he has a writer. Actually, the whole log says he has a writer. I don't think Nero would generate an incomplete burn for a DVD-ROM.

      Later.

Not sure what the problem is, but it does appear that the toshiba sd r5002 is a dvd burner. Not sure why it's reading as a CD-ROM but I have seen this one other time on a legit burner, but don't remember where the thread is.

the error always says write error at 1x(13** KB/s) but there is no option for me to change the write speed?

              Any suggestions?

If this is your burner, it looks like DMA is off. You need to turn on DMA transfer.

Ok, after some research, apparently it is a DVD burner. From the reviews I read, not many people like it. - http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters....&Search=Search

That is the fastest it will write. Its top speed is 2X, 1X for certain media types.

If I were you, I would invest in a new burner. They are dirt cheap now, you can get the same one I have for $42.00 at newegg.com. - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ubmit=Property

                      thanks for your help...

we rearely use the burner so i doubt it will be replaced any time soon.

Next route is going to be to hook it up to one of our spare machines with 2.0usb or install it on an ide cable...

Hopefully this will fix my problem.. i'll keep you posted.

Yes, indeed it does, but it acts quite differently. Don't you think so? My laptop reports my Mash!ta UJ-810 CD/DVD writer as a CD-ROM. There's no explaining the works of computers.
