for uncompressing the avi you could use virtualdubmod

set the video compressor to a lossless format like huffyuv

    +++++

other editing tools could be pinnacle or ulead

        in virtualdubMOD:

        1)
        load the avi

        2)
set => VIDEO => FULL processing mode
and go to => VIDEO => COMPRESSION

choose a lossless codec (if there is any on your system!) like huffyuv and click "configure" to be able to choose the desired (best) settings

        3)
having set the video options go to => FILE => SAVE AS

u will not compress any more, as huffyuv will be an UNcompressed format (and thus of course require lots of space!!!)

you'll need a decompresser like divx or xvid or ffdshow

nope, you mentioned it in your title ^_~

what is the format of your present avi files?
                    (gspot might tell you)

if in doubt, install a universal decoder like FFDSHOW, i use it for playback of all possible formats and prefer it to everything else

can you play the avi on your pc?
                    does it load into vdmod?
(in case any error message occurs on vbr source: click NO)

                      Yes *.AVI Do Play.

The Format At The Moment On Both Files Is XVID

I Have Installed FFDSHOW Already And Tried It Cant Seem To Figrue Out How To De-Compress.

The XVID Files Do Load Up In VDMOD, A Dialog Box Does Appear, I Click On NO, Something To Do With Header's.!

then there is nothing for you do to concerning DEcompressing

install something like huffyuv or maybe canopus dv codec and do what i said in a previous posting: choose on of those codes in vdmod and configure the it for best quality and save file as

                            a better alternative to what?

                            the codec to decompress to?
i'd use huffyuv - excellent lossless codec
