download & install 'vobsub', make sure the file names of the movie and subs are the same and that the files are in the same folder, eg movie.avi , movie.srt , movie.sub

    play your file

      no .idx file

Hi, this is my first time encountering a movie that didn't have the sub titles already enbeded. I have a movie in avi format, and it came with a .sub file. All the posts I have seen on adding the sub titles to the movie have involved two files, (.sub and .idx). Is there a way to add the subtitles to the movie. I have downloaded vobsub but I am not sure what I am sopose to do with it. Any help would be great

Read this and do EVERY step perfectly and this will work like a charm.

Depends what you are after. Could be add subs as in hard encode as per directly above. Could be just play with subs as per further up. Taking the term "add subs" literally, you can mux srt's into an avi with AVI-Mux GUI. Basically the same as giving them the same name, except you don't have to worry about names and you only have one file. External subs are more compatible though.

Also I would forget about VOBSub. VSFilter contains a newer version of directvobsub as well as newer Textsub and VOBsub VDub/AVISynth plugins.
