NEW FREE CODEC: Surround Sound with 128 kbps in Xvid / Divx movies

    Dear All,

I am happy to annonce that we have
just finished a huge 5.1 surround sound
    compression research project.

    Software tools for encoding movies
    with full 5.1 surround,
    and
for real time decoding are available now.
The decoder is compatible with BSplayer
    (or other DirectShow players!

    You can use VirtualDubMod_Aud-X_enabled
    (available @ www.aud-x.com for free)
    to create new movies.

All instalation problems are fixed and should not occur anymore
(i.e. especially for those who had: LoadLibrary ("audxdshow.ax") failed...)

Can you breifly tell us the underlying principle.

Will I get true surround sound 5.1 channels on my divx player.

Can I convert this to a normal surround sound file (AC3) without loosing the quality.

It is mp3 backwards compatible method. It stores some auxiliary spatial information in the mp3 stream (any mp3 compatible player can play Aud-X sound).

It uses advanced algorithms for spatial encoding, thus for low biterates,
based on the main mp3 stream and auxiliary info hidden in the mp3 stream
our decoder can recreate a high quality 5.1 panorama.
In this way this is similar to mp3surround, however we have developed much more
efficient algorithms than FHG, which allows us to generate surround sounds with 128
          kbps, or even less.

And all our software tools are FREE

You will not get the true surround channes in your hardware DivX player
(the player would have to contain our algorithm to decode the stream...
so maybe in the future it will be possible, but not yet

You can convert Aud-X stream to AC3 with our frontend executable.
Since Aud-X is a lossy format, the resulted AC3 will not be identical to AC3 used for creating the Aud-X stream.
However on a home theatre system the difference should not be perceived due to high quality of Aud-X compression

          --

There are two ways to play Aud-X surround sound on your external home theatre system:

          1) Play the sound from your PC by connecting your sound card (via SPDiF) to the external receiver (the external home theatre amplifier) and chosing such an option in our DirectShow decoder

          2) Demux the Aud-X stream. Convert it to AC3 (with our frontend).
Put it back to AVI container. Play it on your DivX hardware player

          If you have further questions,
          I'd be happy to answer

              I forgot to mention...
When you will just play an AVI file with Aud-X stream
directly on your DVD DivX hardware, you will also
              hear the sound...
              --
It will be stereo (or mono - depending on the chosen Aud-X encoding quality).

The newest version of our codec (1.1) for HGHQ encoding option
is mp3 backwards compatible. The mp3 stereofile is downmixed with
accordance to DPLII matrix, thus when reproduced by ProLogicII decoder
                  should result in multichannel signal.

                  ---

When reproduced with Aud-X decoder, Aud-X algorithms are used
to reconstruct the complete 5.1 panorama.
