    divx encoding with flask

First off pardon me if this is twice, I posted yesterday but I got a msg that I wasn't allowed to post until I logged in (but I was logged in) logged in and got nowhere... havent seen it on the boad....so here I go...

I am having a problem with flask 0.6. I can encode a test clip of a few minutes, but when I try a 105 minute movie I get to 16 % and the program freezes the whole computer.....

I used smart ripper to generate a single vob file to encode from...the short test clips work fine and look great....but a whole movie...
    nothing!

so what am I doing wrong here?

running ME on an overclocked, water cooled tbird 1.33 @1596, stable system.

    thanks for any help

hmm, using ME and trying to convert a SINGLE vob file leads me to the question: HOW BIG IS THIS VOB FILE?

i guess it is bigger than 4gb, right?

if so, re-rip the data and DONT let SR merge any vob files!!!

they should stay as they come - ALWAYS!

      ok...iget it but...

makes sense now....16% would be about the size of the first vob....but now that I have 5 how do I get a whole movie out of them? I can only get flask to open one at a time...Do I join them after encoding and with what? hmmm this is more complex than I thought....or perhaps I "dummer" than I thought....

      thanks for the info!!!!!!

          hmmmm.....wellll

thanks for the info, I tried the file and got the same results....

this time I ran cacheman and MBM to watch temps and load and system resources all at the same time....ifigured it would crash anyway, so at least I could gather some dada about it....

my temps are stable at 102F under full load, but my system resources start gradually dropping, after 28 minutes of encoding it drops to 6% and locks up....

          Any Ideas?

          Thanks!

i personally dont like flask much

thus your main fault (from my p-o-v) is to use this tool at all.

maybe you could try xmpeg (which i dont like either -after all it is based on flask ) but it is the better choice of the two options.

you should find xmpeg similar to what you are 'used' from flask and thus it might be a good start to give it a try!

my favourite way of transcoding (reliability and precision guaranteed) is nandub, however!
