    Uninstalling WinDVD

I downloaded a free trial of WinDVD 7 so that I could get the MPEG-2 codecs to work. They now work.

However, I can't uninstall the program! It keeps asking me to insert a disc containing a certain CAB file... that I don't have as there was no disc, just an installer.

How do I uninstall the trial, I don't want it anymore.

post a screenshot of the message you get.

guessing a system restore is out of the question?

System Restore would uninstall the program, but mess the codecs up again I would imagine.

Also, when I go to install it, the installshield crashes every time after I choose to restart. Not sure why... I got it off intervideo's website.

I also noticed that it says "installation" and says that there is already a current version is installed, etc.

Might it be possible to force-uninstall using some third party program?

you could keep windvd, remove any file associations and just delete the folder in /program files. the mpeg2 decoder will remain registered on your system and windvd won't bug you.

or do a system restore and get a different mpeg2 codec (like dscaler or gabest's).

the message suggests it's trying to install windvd, not uninstall?

          Yes it does.

          I tried dscaler, didn't work.
How do I force WMV to use gabest's?

make sure it was dscaler5, not 4.

The official site said 5 was under development and only 4 was there. Maybe you could upload an installer?

Chewy I have the EXE... but it's an EXE not a CAB.

I read that... and googled dscaler5, couldn't find it but I have not had a good habit of finding the correct thing

                      Thanks for the link though.

And, you know how some programs can be force-uninstalled by using a generic uninstall program? Could this work for WinDVD?

                      --EDIT--

it says 0.08 but it's really 5. That could be why.

Ah Chewy WinRAR opened it, so I got that CAB... I will try using that to uninstall later.

I used that same trick to open a crappy NF2 driver package for an old biostar
motherboard, half the drivers would have killed XPsp2, the other half I needed.

With all these idiots runs amock writting software and driver packages, somebody's gotta keep their head on straight.

OK, is there a way to force-remove it? Using Add/Remove programs just tries to reinstall it.
