    Cable Modem packet loss test

Does anyone know of a "visual" packet loss test I can use online? The cable tech is coming tomorrow to service the line. When he was here previously, he pulled up an

internet site that did a packet loss test which showed the success/failure rate in a colored block style window, which made it easy to view.

I have searched all over & have been unable to find this test anywhere. Anyone know of it?

By the way - a neat little speed test site the tech showed me last time...

    and one of my favorites...

    thanks, katz

      Found it!

Just for reference, in case anyone else is interested in testing their connection - I found what I was looking for at
      pcpitstop -

It is the ping test that I was referring to.

Figures, it is coming up all greens today, since the repair guy is coming...

I couldnt get the page to work for me unfortunately though I didnt test it without my firewall. The reason I tried to use it was that Elwells Broadband Speed tests is constantly coming up with big packet losses. However, when I try manual pings even with a 100 pings I mostly get 0 packet loss excpet for one time the BBC site gave me 3% packjet loss. However after using numerous other downlaod speed testers giving much better and consistant speed results as opposed to Elwells download tester I dont trust the Elwell tests anyway.

When I log into my dsl modem, I can look at the packet loss. I would think that the cable modem should have the same test data.

            Packet Loss test

SPEAKEASY.NET is the one that I use for speed test, also pick the farthest state from you.

Its really easy to do a packet loss test.

            START, RUN, TYPE CMD.

TYPE: ping (space) www yahoo com (space) -t

you can type in different sites, but some sites are unpingable, for good reasons...

let it go for awile then hit CNTRL C

look for your loss in %

            thats your packet loss.

also weather changes (HEAT) create packet loss a lot, so take that into consideration before calling the tech out.
