    EA's fumbling misjudgement of Wii

Electronic Arts has been caught off-guard by the success of Nintendo's Wii, and analysts and investors share their thoughts on the company's future.

    -- snip --

Much of the publisher's success in the past has come due to its support of Sony and its PlayStation 2, however, and given the fact that the PlayStation 3 isn't living up to expectations paints a grim picture for EA. "It has huge implications," said one unnamed analyst. "Nintendo will return to its historical position as the No. 1 hardware and software vendor and will leave everyone else fighting for second place."

My son wants a Wii, and so do most of his friends.

I think this gaming system is one of the best in a long time too many kids just sit on the butts and play games with this Wii.. they have to get up and move even bust a sweat while playing. It gives the kids more adventure and physical movement while playing. Clearly the graphics are no where near what PS2 or PS3 or the 360 offer but the games are more fun with the movement.

Sometimes the simpler games are the more fun to play.

I was talking to one of the guys at our local Game Stop and he told me they only stock 2 PS3 systems in the store at one time as they are not selling much. But they have no less then 20 Wii systems in the store every week those they say are selling. PS2 systems are still selling but not as much now as the Wii systems are. Eventually we will get one too.

One of my firend had bought one of the Wii systems and she has lost over 10 lbs now from playing that tennis game. LOL (get up et moving) LOL

The only bad thing about the Wii is the insane prices of the games.
Most of them I'd pay $5, maybe $10 for... but $50 for a game that lasts a few days just isn't worth it to me. Therefore I only have a few games, that I got as gifts.

And also unfortunately, Blockbuster's rental games are always gone so I can't take that approach either

I know PS3 games are the same price, but there are more "real" games and not the mini-game stuff Nintendo makes (for example, Wario Ware for DS... wtf is the point of that), I still like Nintendo better than its competitors, just saying LOL

All the console games are too expensive - $AUD 110 for Xbox 360, $99 for PS3 and $89 for Wii.

Although with that said, I did spend $120 many years ago on Super Street Fighter II for the SNES.

$99.00 for a PS3 WOW they are $600.00 here you money translation cant be that far off from USA money ? You get them cheap there. LOL

But yes I do remember when I was about 12 years old the old Coleco vision game systems were $300.00 and the games went from $45.00 to $85.00 and back then that would be about = to $650-700.00$ now.

So they systems are cheaper now then they were back then at least for PS2 LOL PS3 about the same in equivalant.

I meant the games, $99 for the new release games, which is about $US 82.

            The PS3 itself is $999 ($US 820)

Even the virtual console games are kinda expensive... I called Nintendo and they said I would have to buy games I own for N64 and the like again for the V.C.,
I was hoping I could get them for free since I own the original console game LOL. It was a nice try though.

I find that with DS games, it's too focused on "OMG we can use a touch screen" than actual gameplay itself. Too many games are lame these days. Thank god I have a flash card and I can just put music and videos on that thing and have my own portable entertainment system.

And the Wii you still have to buy games... and the videos are just too darn big to fit on my 1GB SD card. I should start buying used games, I could probably save money that way.

aussie dollars are closer to Lb's than US dollars in exchange rates?

never figured out why they use dollars anyway?

                  durn got my ratios reversed

                    $AUD 1 => $US 0.82. $AUD 1 => £ 0.4126

One possibility is to buy a PS3 from HK, although this means no Blu-ray playback due to region coding. Buying from the UK is just as expensive, if not more so. I'm sure it will be much cheaper in a year, so I'll just buy one then (most likely not though).

The sad thing is now that PS3 is out when new games come out eventually they will stop making them for PS2 and you will have to have PS3 to have the new release games.

They did that with PS1 eventually the new games were no longer made for that system only for PS2. So they got ya right where they want ya!

My son has already seen that there was a game he wanted that was released for PS3 but not made for PS2 at all. Too bad he cant have that game as I am not buying a PS3

We have two Wii's in the house, of course I don't play it but never mind the cost of the games. You start using that wand or whatever it is called & then you can start adding up the cost of the batteries, it goes through them like crazy.

I got 6 rechargeable batteries and a recharger (one of those 1 hour rechargers) for my 2 Wii controllers, and the Xbox 360 controller - cost me about $AUD 50, and well worth it. At the rate I go through batteries, I'll make back the money in about 8 months. Good for the environment too

The one I got was a generic brand. I've heard good things about Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable batteries (http://www.pcauthority.com.au/review.aspx?CIaRID=4294), since it does not lose the charge as much as other types of batteries when not in use.

I just use normal AA rechargables, available at any Home Depot or Target. (5 minute charge kind are the best, but overnight works too if they don't sell the fast ones where you live)
