    MultiMovie DVD-Video Disc from AVI's

Has anyone got experience/good advice in creating a DVD-R (dual layer) video disc which will play on most DVD-Players which contains multiple movies (selectable through menu), and was created from sources such as a XVID encoded AVI's with mp3 or ac3 audio?

I want to do this with minimum effort, waste and maximum quality, I know the quality won't great, but I have seen these 5in1 DVD-R's in Asia before and they were watchable IMO.

I have skimmed many guides (3hrs today, lots of hours in past), but none which compile all neccessary steps for this objective.

From what I read, I could create SVCD compliant files which can then be input to a DVD authoring program such as TMPGEnc DVD Author to output DVD (non compliant, but high success rates, SVCD stream?) files, but I don't know if this is the BEST method, and if there is a program which could do this in one go (convert mulitple input XVID (calc DVD size) to SVCD's, create menus/DVD structure/format and produce image or burn image, resulting with no stutter/out of sync etc).

I think alot of people along with myself would benefit from knowing a clean set of instructions and recommendations from the video wizards out there.

    Please Help.

    Thanks.

svcd is a cd format, dual layer dvd's come in dvd-(dash) or dvd+(plus) format, dvd+R's are the normal ones.
3hrs? It took me 3 months to even start to begin to understand this stuff

Contradictory statements. Great expectations. As Chewy said,it took him 3 months to begin to understand. It took me may be 3 years !
Try ConvertXtoDVD. It is not free but has a trial. It is the closest that I can think of right now that meets most(if not all) your demands.

          tools I've found useful

930, if you require DVD Video format then I'd recommend you try gui4ffmpeg 2.1 freeware. You can experiment with the bitrate to produce decent looking .mpg files with navpacks ready for authoring. Then pull them into SVCD2DVD or DVDAuthorGUI. Either has simple menu creation abilities. SVCD2DVD is about $20 but I like the menu creation tool. DVDAuthorGUI is freeware but AFAIK creating menu buttons is a little more involved.

You'll fit more video on each disc at better quality if your stand-alone can process divx. In that case you could use AviDemux 2.4 to process the xvid or divx files to make them more stand-alone friendly.

If you need to mess with subtitles that can limit your options somewhat.
