Why $100 is the perfect Blu-ray player price

Lite-On might be releasing a $150 Blu-ray player at some point in 2009, recent rumors suggest. There's not much more information available now, but I don't think it seems out of the question to expect Lite-On or another firm like Memorex to release a player for that price sometime during the year.

That's going to set things even faster in motion for the whole video-on-demand race as well as Blu-ray. $150 isn't bad. $100 better, and $50 would definitely be ot$$$.

They just extended the digital transition to June 12th, so my suggestion would be to keep giving those $40 coupons, and for $10 bucks plus tax one could snatch a Blu-ray player. Sounds great huh. Lol...

When did the date change for the digital transition. Last I heard the bill was defeated.

I watched the news here, and I did not hear or see anything about extending the transition to digital. I wonder what the companies will do.

The FCC auctioned off the bandwidth that would have been freed up, with the transition to digital. Can the companies enter into litigation against the government. Seeing that they will not get what they paid for and scheduled to be turned over February 27. Now being pushed back to June.

After this whole economic fall through I don't know what the heck's going on, legal or illegally. I'm pretty sure the Administration had to definitely work something out beforehand. Although it was knocked down at their 1st attempt to push it back. From what I'm seeing and experiencing they're doing w/e they want to do, which has been since day 1, but more so recently. I'm even seriously thinking taking all, but the minimum for my account out, as I'm not one to accept, "Sorry your $$$'s gone, checking and savings."

I know all about the FDIC insurance, and how if everyone pulled out the whole country would implode, however, they're still in charge.

However it went down if 4 mos. is going to be any consolation to those that need it then more power to them. Sooner or later they'll have to just get it over with and buy a HDTV like everyone else anyway.

I think FCC questioning this move to push the Digital Transition back. Something I quickly read in AD's Newsletter. Not 100% sure, but you're right about the parties involved over the bandwidths purchased.

The original news story was released when the senate passed the bill, but it had not went through the house. Well the house originally defeated the bill, but it looks as if they put it to vote again on Wednesday 2-4-09 and the vote was 264-158, still not what is needed to pass the bill, but I guess they are going to put it in for the president to sign off on anyway.

The thing is, not only does it hurt the phone companies but it also puts a strain on the broadcasters, as they will have to continue to broadcast in analogue and digital and it will cost untold amounts of money for this continuation. But I guess 8 years or so was not enough time for the government to make their preparations, and get themselves and the public ready, although all others involved were able to take care of their ends.

Thnx copyless. You just confirmed what I thought from the get go. They'll do w/e when they want. They're trying to please everyone because of the economic climate etc... Never could be done. Not w/this or anything for that matter. I'm still wondering how they could just tell all these broadcasters, and the ones who bought the bandwidths that were going to be open to F@#k off w/out any legal ramifications. Like I said though they're in charge.

Personally I like the additional stations that are on the digital signal in this area. I get about 7 or 8 more stations over the 11 analog/digital duplicate stations.
For this whole digital thing to work around here though, they better add some power to the signal. The digital signal has a real bad habit of breaking up and getting pixelated. It’s not just me. Some of my neighbors have special amplified antennas and they get the same crap.
If they don’t get this straightened up by June there is going to be about a million people screaming at the local stations.

Abuilder you getting the signal through a cable box or similar avenue? Or just plain through the air? In my living room I had to get a box for the analog Sony Wega in there. Yes sometimes it comes in pixelated. If you're getting the same thing on a HDTV w/a better hookup then yes they better figure this out.

No just a plain old indoor antenna. But my neighbors have some really nice ampified antennas and they still get the same poor quality.
I'm only 4 miles from the broadcast tower to.

The pixelation is the same as snow would be on an analog broadcast.

But that's odd... it JUST gets pixelated? For me, if a station isn't strong enough it skips... like a scratched DVD would. I've never seen it get pixelated as you're describing. (Then again, I've only ever tried it with a converter box and rabbit ears... for our HDTV we have the cable feed so I have no need for an antenna there)

Funny? there is a brand new tower here that was built strictly for the digital change-over too.
I'm not about to shell out $60 a month to Time Warner for cable either. Not when there is 20+ local stations. On good days I can even get channel 7 out of Chicago and that's almost 90 miles south.
