Windows 7 doesn't actually support Blu-ray movie playback without third party software. You need to buy a third party Blu-ray player like PowerDVD Ultra 3D or WinDVD Pro . Even then, Windows Media Player won't play Blu-ray movies (you'll still need to use PowerDVD or WinDVD), but PowerDVD does come with full Windows Media Center integration, meaning Blu-ray movies will play within MC just like as if it natively supports it (while WinDVD actually has to minimize MC first and load up the full player).

All you have to do is to install PowerDVD Ultra 3D (remember, only the Ultra 3D version has Blu-ray support), and then it automatically integrates into MC in Vista/7, you don't have to do anything else.

What kind of error do you get? Have you tried playing within the PowerDVD interface (not going through Media Center), and did it work?

PowerDVD is fully self-contained, meaning it has everything that's needed in order for Blu-ray playback to work (no need to install anything else).

Well, it works really well for me, but I have the latest patch for PowerDVD 10 Ultra 3D installed, which can be downloaded here:

Once I start MC, there's an entry in the main menu called "Cyberlink PowerDVD 10", and once I insert the disc, if the movie doesn't automatically start playing, I just select this menu option and it all works. This is in Windows 7, BTW.

Well, this is the first time you've actually mentioned playing from your HDD, instead of the original disc. In that case, PowerDVD won't even play Blu-ray folders from the HDD (not since a very early version anyway due to copy protection issues), and there's no easy to to load folders from within Media Center I don't think, without at the very least mounting the folder/ISO as a virtual disc using Daemon Tools or something.

I don't have much experience with this, so can't really offer much more help.
