Please Help: Converting VHS to DVD

    Hey gang,

I have tons of old VHS tapes that I want to convert to DVD, or to digital files on my computer.

I'm looking for great tips, suggestions, recommendations...

I did search online regarding VHS players that would be best for this process. The JVC HR-S9911U S-VHS was strongly recommended. It has 4MB Digi Pure Technology. Not sure what that is, but sounds like it was perfect for this.

I was going to us a DVD recorder, but didn't know if it would be better to record using my computer. The vhs tapes run from 2 - 8 hours each. I would want to edit the video clips on each tape. I would guess that recording to my computer would be best for this?

Also, I'm reading that the files will be HUGE per hour. I'm reading that I would have to use an encoder? to shrink down each file?

Clearly I'm new to all of this. I just want to make sure that I have everything I need so that I do it right the first time - the best way possible. I appreciate any and all feedback, tips, etc.

    Thanks in advance.
    Joey
