x264 frame multithread

Hi,

i am interested in how encoders and decoders do parallel processing.

x264 claims it does multi frame thread encoding and multi slice thread encoding. But as i check the encoder code it is rather difficult to understand the logic behind it. Anybody know how this works...

I have read in many places that this should be set at the frame rate of the video (29.97= set Min IDR-frame interval at 30).
