Quality Media (ie cheap, good, DVD-R/W discs)

There's a lot of media out there, and so far I have only been exposed to the generic, unbranded Purple/Gold DVD-Recordable media for DVD-R General 2.0 conformant drives that look like the Princo discs. Unfortunately, they seem to suck nuts farely well. After leaving one of the discs out in the open (exposed the dust, etc.) for only a day, the disc would only play for a few minutes, and then commence to crap out my computer. I was wondering if any of you guys have had any experinece (of the good kind) with any of the media out there. I would prefer the cheaper stuff (I plan to take care of them fairly well), but if only the higher costing brand name shit will do, then let me know. Thanks.
