Unable to join certain AVI files using Peck's Power Join and VirtualDub

Hi everybody. I'm trying to join three AVI files with no success. When I use Peck's Power Join, I get this error message: "1.avi (eg) could not be joined. (The file did not open, error status 102, system 0.)" When I use VirtualDub, I get the following message: "Couldn't locate decompressor for format WMV1 (unknown)." Any suggestions? Thanks.

I couldn't find this codec through the Microsoft site. Can you please tell me where I can download it from? Thanks.

Many thanks. When I clicked on the URL link you gave me, I was taken to http://codeccorner.com/index.html instead. I then selected Others->WMV and was directed to MS Media site for the download. There was nothing like WMV or v.7 codec or wmvds32.ax among the options there, so I selected the "Codecs Download Package" and downloaded wmpcdcs8.exe, which installed WMVideo versions 7 & 8 etc. on my hard disk. If what I did is what you suggested, pls note that I am still unable to join the files.

"When I use VirtualDub, I get the following message: 'Couldn't locate decompressor for format WMV1 (unknown).'"

After installing the codec, did you still receive this same message from VIrtualDub?

Then you haven't successfully installed the codec...

I have installed it and reinstalled it again and again. Unless what I installed (pls read what I downloaded and installed -above) is NOT what you suggested. Also pls note that I use the latest WM Player 9 for WinME. Thanks.

I finally found a solution by myself which might be of interest to you too, as well as to other members of the message board. I converted the avi files to mpeg using TMPGE, and then joined them with no problem! Thanks anyway.
