    DVD-ROM won't play DVDs anymore

it still's able to read audio and regular cd's fine, but not dvd's anymore. the last time i played a dvd on it was about 6 months ago and it worked fine back then.

anyone got a solutions for this?
BTW i've got powerdvd 4.0 and winXP professional.
    thanks for any help.

    1) Try running a DVD/CD cleaning disk (Maxell, about $10 US) on your drive

    2) If the drive has dual lasers, chances are the DVD laser is out of alignment - it'll cost you less to buy a new drive than to have your present one repaired...

i had the same thing happen to me, too... the drive would only read cds (music and date)...it's a sad state of affairs 'these days' when replacing is cheaper than repairing...

That happened to mine.. just bought a new drive. You can get a burner for like $50, a Samsung one (www.microcenter.com - search around) that works great (for me). My DL DVD-ROM drive would read normal DVDs but not dual layer. The burner works great for me, and it is cheap!
