Can I use 3rd party capture software with my video capture card?

Please forgive the newbie-ness of this question:

I have an AVER-TV video capture card. Using the software that came with it, I can capture to MPEG-I or MPEG-II.

Can I use other capture software with my card?

Is it possible for me to capture to other formats (uncompressed AVI, MJPEG, etc.) simply by using other capture software? or is it the card itself that determines what formats I can capture to?

    Thanks in advance!!

Simply try it (nothing to lose)...

Assuming that you have the VFW drivers for your card installed, you should be able to use virtualdub (and many other capture progs) for capture.
Donate your idle CPU time for something usefull.
