Default Problems with encoding NTSC using Gordian Knot 0.21

I was following a guide on converting DVD material to Divx, but the stuff involving NTSC video type has me stumped. The guide says to run an IVTC conversion on the DVD2AVI project file using the program TMPGEnc. However, the TMPGEnc project file is incompatible with Gordian Knot. I've tried converting to a VFAPI-AVI file, but that doesn't work as well. Anyone have any ideas how to get around this?

GordianKnot has its own built-in IVTC feature, which you can activate by opening the D2V file in GK and pressing the "Save & Encode" button. Select Inverse Telecine, rather than Deinterlacer.

Thx a lot. Wow, that was ridiculously fast. Do you sit here and hit refresh all day or something?

consider updating gk to 027 btw for divx5 support or better audio settings compared to 021.

Now my problems are getting stranger. When I tried encoding the file, i got this:

6:47:28 PM: Finished DivX5-Second Pass. Duration: 0 seconds.
    6:47:27 PM: Started DivX5-Second Pass: D:\Ripped stuff\test.avs

I'm absolutely lost as to what to do about this.

Is there a way to view the log file other than the encoding window? You can't c/p the text through that window, and it's a real pain to type it all out.

Couldn't find the old log, but i tried encoding again under the exact same conditions:

Could you try loading the file "D:\Ripped stuff\test.avs" into virtualdub, select video->compression, select the Divx5 codec, click configure and set 'Variable bitrate mode' to '2-pass first pass', click Ok,OK. And save as a avi file.

I don't think you will succede with the above, but when you get an error message, tell us exactly what it says, and where you got it.

Vdub is unable to determine the filetype of "test.avs".

That would indicate that avisynth is not properly installed, you can get it from www.doom9.net , but to be on the safe side you might want to get the "Gordian Knot System pack" which includes avisynth.

The encoding process went smoothly, only when i playback the resulting AVI file, it's just a black screen.

Was this from doing the first pass as I described above, or from doing both passes from within GordianKnot ?.

The first pass is not supposed to produce any output.

That was from using your method on setting the codec to first pass.
