How can I produce a higher bitrate using Virtual Dub?

I'm new at this so if anyone could be so kind as to help me out that would be Super Special. When trying to compress a wav file using mpeg layer 3 in VD, i'd like to use at least a bitrate of 96, but even if I check the 'show all' box, the highest available rate is 56kbit/s. Does anyone know why this is? I have no idea what's going on. Anyone, please help me out..
    Thanks a lot!!

Try installing either the Radium MP3 codec OR the LAME ACM MP3 codec...

Oh yeah! Thanks for the info Enchanter. Installed Radium and that gives me up to 320kbits/s.
